OVERVIEW:
Brimfield Township, 23 square miles in size with 11,000 residents, is strategically located in Southwest Portage County. The township has access to an excellent transportation system with 2 interstate highway exchanges on I-76, State Route 43 traversing north/south through the township, and State Route 261 located just north of the township. Residential growth has developed the community and made Brimfield one of the fastest growing townships in Ohio. The township is home to Newell Rubbermaid and the headquarters of Carter Lumber. Easy accessibility puts Brimfield within one hour’s drive of Cleveland, Akron, Canton and Youngstown, and a quiet drive in the country is literally only minutes away as well.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The Brimfield Police Department provides one of the most indispensable functions to our community - professional police services. The Department is currently allotted 15 full-time sworn personnel consisting of the Police Chief, 1 Captain, 3 Sergeants, and 10 Patrol Officers. The Department also has 2 full-time administrative/clerical staff, as well as 2 Reserve Patrol Officers and 4 non-sworn Auxiliary personnel to assist our staff. With computer aided dispatch (CAD) provided by Kent State University PD and a cruiser fleet equipped with in-car wireless video systems and mobile wireless laptop computers, our Department strives to incorporate better technology to make the job of public safety more efficient. The backbone of the Department is our personnel – serving our Brimfield community with integrity.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Police Officers: Handling calls for service, interacting with the community and proactive community relations, patrolling to deter and detect crime, investigating complaints, citing and arresting law violators, protecting people and property, securing prisoners, preparing written reports, use of computers, and testifying in court. The Brimfield Police Department also provides opportunities to progress to assignments as organizational needs arise, such as Metro SWAT, Portage County Drug Task Force, DARE, School Resource Officer (SRO), K-9, Investigations, Crisis Intervention (CIT), Training Instructor, and Field Training Officer (FTO).
