City & Borough of Juneau
Company Overview
Juneau, the capital city of Alaska, has a population of about 32,000 and hosts 1 million summer visitors a year. Juneau is geographically isolated on the Southeast Alaska panhandle and is accessible only by plane or boat. Located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, flanked by snow-capped mountains and the Juneau Icefield, the city boasts immediate access to wilderness. Juneau offers a small-town feel with the benefits of a capital city – a thriving arts community, a bourgeoning entrepreneur scene, sophisticated medical services and other benefits not normally found in a city of its size.
Juneau has a Council-Manager form of government with an elected mayor and eight other Assembly (Council) members. The Police Chief reports directly to the City Manager. The City and Borough of Juneau employs approximately 500 full-time people and about 400 temporary and part-time people, and operates with a $110 million budget. The City and Borough of Juneau aspires to provide world-class services to the community while cultivating an outstanding organizational culture for its employees. The City also places a high value on citizen input and strives to include them as fellow problem solvers whenever possible. Residents can expect to receive exceptional service, have the opportunity to engage with decision-makers, provide input regarding the allocation of City resources, and have access to government information in a timely and transparent manner.
