Company Overview
Lakeland Electric is the 3rd largest publicly owned utility in Florida; a vertically integrated utility with 970 MW of internal generation; 120,000 customers; a 258 square mile service area; approximately 600 employees and operating revenues of $350 million.
Power is generated at Lakeland Electric’s two main power plants, the 941-megawatt McIntosh Power Plant and the 176-megawatt Larsen Power Plant. The utility also operates a group of energy-efficient generating units capable of providing up to 50-megawatts of additional electricity when other units are out of service or during periods when demand for electricity is highest.

For example, we are continuing to upgrade our transmission system to reduce power outages and allow us to serve a growing and greater populace. Company History
Built upon historic character, philanthropy and volunteerism, Lakeland offers its residents, businesses and visitors a true sense of place. Incorporated in 1885, Lakeland quickly became one of the premier cities in Florida. From the inaugural railroad service in the mid-1890's to being one of the first cities in Florida to have electricity, Lakeland has always been a hub of innovation and progressive ideas.
Lakeland has received the distinction of being on Money Magazine’s “Best Place to Live in America” list. In addition, Lakeland is home to Publix Supermarkets, Florida Southern College, which hosts the largest one-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, and is the winter home to the Detroit Tigers.
