Company Profile

Company Overview

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is the mass transit agency for the Dallas metropolitan area. The DART Police Department provides police services for the transportation system throughout 13 cities in 6 counties.

Company History

To serve the needs of the mass transit riding public, DART created its own police department in September of 1989. Since its inception, the department has grown to 340 positions. DART Police officers are vested with all the rights, privileges, obligations, and duties of peace officers in the state of Texas. DART services over 700 square miles, in six counties, and 13 cities in the Dallas metropolitan area.

Due to the expansion of the transit system in the Dallas regional area, the DART Police Department implemented a multi-year growth plan starting in 2007. Since 2007, we have hired over 170 police officers and 90 civilians. As a result, the DART Police Department now has over 340 members. But, we still have more positions to fill.

We are also very proud to announce that just last year, we moved into a brand new 70,000 square foot headquarters building. Our new home includes a state-of-the-art evidence processing area, a workout facility with locker rooms, and a shooting simulator room, among many other common amenities.
