The Town of Enfield is located in north central Connecticut on the border with Massachusetts. The population is approximately 46,000.

The Enfield Police Department is a nationally and state accredited agency.

There are approximately 99 sworn officers within the department. Divisions include Patrol, Detective, & Traffic. These divisions are further broken down to provide opportunities for officers to work in positions such as Community Police, School Resource Officer, K9 Unit, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer, & Strategic Team Enforcement Policing. We also participate in the regional Metro Traffic Services traffic enforcement unit, and the Capitol Region Emergency Services Team.

The department has 35 marked police vehicles which consist mostly of 2011 Ford Crown Victorias. In addition, there is a Crime Scene Unit, Special Ops / Prisoner Transport van, two Harley Davidson motorcycles, two Mobile Command Centers, and 18 unmarked cars.

Patrol Officers share the use of a cruiser with one or two other officers only. Some officers have sole use of their cruiser.

Uniformed officers work eight hour days with five days on followed by three days off. The following week consists of five on and two off. This 5/3-5/2 schedule continues for 15 weeks at which time officers bid by seniority for which shift they want to work on.

Officers bid for one of six shifts per day. Shifts start at 11:00pm, 12:00am, 7:00am, 8:00am, 3:00pm, & 4:00pm.

Initial training for officers occurs at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden or the Hartford Police Academy. Upon graduation from either academy, the officer is assigned to a challenging 16 week field training program conducted by Field Training Officers of the Enfield Police Department.

After successfully completing the field training program, officers are assigned to the Patrol Division to begin their career in a solo capacity as a Patrol Officer. 10.13
