About Lexington Police
With an authorized strength of 600 sworn officers and nearly 150 civilian personnel, the Lexington Police Department is the largest division within the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. The agency's mission is to serve and protect all citizens and visitors in the city with a high level of integrity, transparency and dedication to community policing. The department is led by Police Chief Mark Barnard.
Lexington's local government is a merged city-county system, so our police department has jurisdiction over all of Fayette County. Patrol beats range from urban areas to rural countryside dotted with horse farms.
Officers earn competitive pay and have many opportunities for growth through a variety of assignments within the department.
The department is comprised of four bureaus:
•Administration
•Investigation
•Patrol
•Special Operations
Each bureau is home to several units, with responsibilities ranging from traffic control, patrolling neighborhoods, criminal investigations, assisting crime victims, officer training and more.

Position:
• Police Officer, Full-time
• Starting salary in Academy — $38,688
• 1st year salary $40,701 + benefits ($8,068) = $48,769
• Additional college incentive pay - up to $1,500 for Bachelor’s Degree
1st Year salary with benefits, bachelor’s degree and KLEFPF funding total = $54,269
Benefits Package:
• Take-home vehicle—Available out-of-county
• $100 monthly subsidy for personal cell phone
• $500 annual uniform allowance
• $530.74 per month flexible benefits package: Health, dental, vision
• $4,000 KLEFPF funding annually
