The McHenry County Conservation District is an organization committed to preserving open space, providing environmental education programs, and providing recreational opportunities to the public. Located in northern Illinois, the McHenry County Conservation District owns or manages over 21,000 acres of beautiful open land with young and old trees, prairies, wetlands, ponds, creeks, and rivers. Our 25 open conservation areas include trails, picnic facilities, shelters, campsites, fishing sites, rare plant and animal examples, and educational facilities w/educators.

Company History

The McHenry County Conservation District was established in 1971 in response to the State of Illinois Conservation Act. The McHenry County Conservation District is one of five conservation districts in Illinois. Today, it has grown into an agency of 82 employees who make up eight departments-- Natural Resource Management, Police, Education, Land & Facilities, Planning & Development, Wildlife Resource Center, Communications, and Administration.
