MCC is also among the top educational institutions in the region and is one of the oldest - our roots go back to 1915. MCC offers solid transfer degree programs as well as nearly 80 career choices that can launch a rewarding career in two years or less. We are very proud of our diversity, community connections, and the vital role we play in developing a workforce for Kansas City.

Company History

OUR HISTORY
1915
The roots of MCC go back the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute, which opened its doors in downtown Kansas City. 234 students enrolled.

1919
The Institute became the Junior College of Kansas City and was the first two-year college in the United States to award the associate's degree.

1964
Voters in suburban school districts joined with the Kansas City School District to create the Metropolitan Community Colleges District.

1969
Three colleges - Longview, Maple Woods, and Penn Valley - were opened.

1997
Blue River Community College in Independence was established, consolidating Blue Springs and Independence campuses.

2002
The campus created in 1995 to deliver business services and technical skills becomes the Business & Technology College.

2005
Five colleges became one: Metropolitan Community College.

*Employee Medical Insurance
Employees have the opportunity to select coverage from a health maintenance organization (HMO) or a preferred provider organization (PPO) with Blue Cross/Blue Shield

(2 x base salary, employee may purchase up to an additional 2 x salary for a total of 4 times salary)

* MCC pays for employee medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and basic life insurance for full-time eligible employees regardless of the medical plan selected. If an employee chooses dependent medical insurance coverage, the district pays a portion of the premium. If an employee elects not to take dependent medical coverage, the district provides a pre-determined dollar amount which must be used for dependent dental or vision coverage or applied to a flexible spending account or health savings account for the employee.

403B Plan
The district provides a matching contribution of sixty-six and two-thirds cents on the dollar, up to a maximum district contribution of $1,000 per calendar year, to each eligible employee who wishes to contribute to an approved tax-sheltered annuity plan through pay reduction.
The district observes 8 paid holidays per year.

Vacation earned per month of service according to the employee category and length of service.

Sick Leave accrued at the rate of one day per month of service.

Bereavement Leave in case of a death in the immediate family.

Bookstore discounts at each campus location and use of the library facilities.

MCC tuition fee waivers for employees and their dependents.

Tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of preapproved courses at other colleges (80% of UMKC tuition rate for employee only).

A retirement system with matching contributions by the district.

Voluntary Long-Term Care Insurance with UNUM-Provident.
