Company Profile
Northwest HIDTA
Company Overview
The National High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, created by Congress in 1988, is administered by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). There are currently 33 region-focused HIDTAs across the 50 states, as well as in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia.
The HIDTA program helps improve the effectiveness and efficiency of drug control efforts by facilitating cooperation among drug control organizations through resource and information sharing, collocation, and implementing joint initiatives. HIDTA funds help federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement organizations invest in infrastructure and joint initiatives to confront drug trafficking organizations.
Northwest HIDTA was created in 1997 and is responsible for supporting drug prevention, treatment, education, training, and enforcement efforts in Washington State. The HIDTA program provides direct service to 15 of the state’s 39 counties: Benton, Clark, Cowlitz, Franklin, Grant, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Spokane, Thurston, Whatcom, and Yakima. The program encompasses 18 law enforcement initiatives, represented by dozens of federal, state, and local agencies spread throughout these 15 counties. In addition, 19 public health, community coalition, drug court, and other organizations comprised of 21 treatment and prevention programs partner with Northwest HIDTA.
