Police officers in the City of Portland, Maine's largest municipality, work to enforce the laws of the State of Maine and the ordinances of the City of Portland. The Portland Police Department employs 160 sworn officers and 6o civilian employees. The community it serves is approximately 64,000 residents. The Department is comprised of three major divisions: the Office of the Chief, the Bureau of Operations and the Bureau of Investigations.
