Wichita Police Department

The Wichita Police Department is a full-service police organization with approximately 630 sworn officers and 170 civilian employees. The annual budget for the department is in excess of $80 million. The department is divided into three divisions: Field Services, Investigations (including Air Patrol), and Support Services (including Animal Control), each led by a Deputy Chief of Police. In 2014, the department responded to 218,614 calls for service for 23,000 Part One crimes. Employees with the rank of Sergeant and below are represented by the Fraternal Order of Police.

The City has a Council-Manager form of government. The chief is appointed by the City Manager and work is directed and reviewed by the City Manager.
