Company Overview

The Wilmington Police Department is comprised of over 300 employees. Two hundred and seventy are sworn police officers. The Police Department serves a diverse population of 100,000. Wilmington is located in southeastern North Carolina along the Cape Fear River. The City is also home to UNC- Wilmington, a fast growing, vibrant university.

In 2007, the Police Department moved its headquarters into a new, state- of- the art 85,000 square foot building. In 2009, the Police Department opened up a modern 10,500 square foot station in the southeastern portion of the City.

The Police Department has an active career development program to ensure that its personnel obtain the necessary experience to better serve the citizens.

Additionally, the Wilmington Police Department has an airborne unit, which utilizes two helicopters. The program named SABLE- Southeastern North Carolina Airborne Law Enforcement- partners with other regional law enforcement agencies to maximize the effectiveness of the unit.

Benefits

There is a mandated 5% contributuion made by the City of Wilmington to a 401K plan.
An additional 4.5% contribution is made by the City of Wilmington to deferred compensation. Additionally, there is an educational incentive: $2000.00 for BS/BA, $1000.00 for an AA. Furthermore, the Department has a take home car program.

There is a $2500.00 sign on bonus for those who qualify.
